Report about practical training part 2
In the 2nd part of our pratical training with the apprentice from the joiner school, we went on with the works to build the cabinet.
This class goal was, to produce the drawer and the door from the cabinet. But that wasn't possible within five days of work ( partially it was only possible to work 2-3 hours, because of celebration events in the school). But most of the apprentice produced their drawer in the first week, while they engrossed their knowledge in making the joints as tooth.
The increase of that, to make tooth joints hidden in the visible part of the drawer was a little more complicated for most of them in the beginning. After several explanations and with help how to mark the piece of wood, they also took that barrier.
Also in the way of producing the joints and the handling of the different kind of tools progress and improvement was visible. The advanced apprentice got the honour this time, to make bevels out of hornbeam in different measurements, which are scarce goods in the school and the ones we brought to the lessons were hard-faught every time.
The produced examples were of course given into the hands of the teacher, to get rid of that problem.
Most of the apprentice had fun and joy during their work and they are already looking forward to the next two weeks of pratical training, which will take place in february next year. We are going to be there again and aim of those two weeks will be to finish the cabinet.
For the advanced apprentice we also have another special task, as they should try to make tooth joints with a 45 degree angle.
A small stool should be made, which also holds together with wooden joints only.
