Tuesday 07. April 2009 Report about pratical training Part 3
By: ED"Fortunately... tomorrow is trade school!..."
We thought like this in winterly temperature and abounding snow in front of our door. Our last week with the apprentice in this school year we naturally passed with our project: cabinet. The aim of this week was to manufature the door, the assembly afterwards and if necessary some precision work. Modell: solid wood frame (slot/ tenon), filling plywood board, for faster ones solid wood filling, partially glass or mirror. Like in former weeks the production steps as: measurements to calculate the timber list, timber choice, triming, gouging out... were done by the apprentice and most of them could do it independently. In this week the frame joints and filling rabbets were all done at the stationary router. The settings therefore were task of the apprentice. Special hinges (more than 110 grades) should have been used to assemble the door at the cabinet. But those ones weren`t available. So we had to think for alternatives. In the end we chose the lowed price version. Piano hinge and an additional safety catch. After the apprentice had created individual carved handles, the door was oiled or coated. Extras like lockable drawers were realized and everyone could take home the finished cabinet.
